The Railway Arms

26 Anstey Rd, Alton GU34 2RB

Just up the road from Alton Train Station sits the first stop on The Mile.

This is an authentic and zany pub known for the model train protruding from the front of the building. It's a Triple FFF pub, a local craft ale brewery based in Four Marks, 2 miles down the road from Alton.

The Eight Bells

33 Church St, Alton GU34 2DA

Opposite St Lawrence Church is our second stop on the Mile. Known locally for keeping his beer brilliantly, the landlord here stocks Flowerpots, another local brewery down the road in Cheriton.

The Crown Hotel

High St, Alton GU34 1BN

Good value for money with a pool table and screens with sport. The Crown sits on the top of Alton's High Street, has a cool cellar downstairs and an outside area with seating at the back.

Bakers Arms

32 High St, Alton GU34 1BN

Newly refurbished last year and looking brilliant with a great range of beers and friendly staff. Situated in the centre of Alton's High Street. Great spot for sport with multiple screens and a backroom with a big telly.

The Swan

High St, Alton GU34 1AT

This Greene King pub has been in Alton since at least 1499. Originally it only consisted of the central plot before it was acquired in the 1700s and made into an inn. It's slap-bang in the centre of Alton's high street and is a spacious, relaxing setting for the punter.

The Market Hotel

7 Market Square, Alton GU34 1HD

The Market Hotel has a nice, spacious vibe, serves real ale and has a pool table. Since the council have introduced seating in the middle of the Square it's been a great place to go grab a pint and spend an evening.

The Wheatsheaf

Market Square, Alton GU34 1HD

Market Square is the place to go for Alton's nightlife. The Wheatsheaf welcomes punters with sport and a party atmosphere at weekends.

Ten Tun Tap House

1 Westbrook Walk, Alton GU34 1HZ

Alton's newest addition - and a very welcome one!

With outdoor seating and a connoisseur of craft beer at the helm, you'll be well looked after here. Again, on the Market Square - great place to loop back to if you're looking for a night out.

The White Horse

96-98 High St, Alton GU34 1EN

£2 London Prides? Don't mind if I do. Amazing place to go watch the sport with multiple screens and great value drink.

The George

Butts Rd, Alton GU34 1LH

A pub with a lovely vibe and great interior. It offers great food (amazing pies and an entirely gluten-free menu) and often has live music.

French Horn

Whitedown Ln, Alton GU34 1RT

Just off Alton's green, The Butts, the French Horn is surrounded by a brilliant garden area. The bar staff are great and keep you well watered. Food's good here too.

Going the extra mile

2 great pubs either side of your route

Winchester Rd, Chawton, Alton GU34 1SB

Queens Head

London Rd, Holybourne, Alton GU34 4EG

Fancy a walk across the green, Mr Darcy?

Greyfriars in Chawton sits opposite the house where Jane Austen wrote all of her great works. Good pint of real ale too.

Warm welcome and cold beers here. This pub is well known for having a good range of real ales. A great place to start the route if you're a real ale fan!
